GENERAL MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
Balmoral Golf Club, centrally located in South Belfast, is a stunning parkland golf course recognised for its outstanding layout and expansive views.
We are currently recruiting for a General Manager and are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual with proven management capability and sound financial and commercial acumen to develop, lead and enhance the Club experience for members and visitors and drive the future development of our club
Reporting to the Chairperson of Council, the successful applicant will have overall responsibility for all aspects of the day-to-day management, development and promotion of the Club, course and facilities.
The Role
- Work with the Council to create and deliver key Club objectives and targets, ensuring we remain relevant and attractive to members and visitors and therefore financially sustainable into the future.
- Develop and monitor, in conjunction with the Council, long term strategic plans for the club.
- Manage, in conjunction with the Finance Committee, the Club’s financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing annual budgets, scheduling expenditures, analysing variances, initiating corrective action plans.
- Actively market club memberships, maximise alternative revenue streams and provide a high level of service to the golf and social community here at Balmoral Golf Club.
- Recruit and develop talent while maintaining a positive and inclusive work environment. Train and monitor employees while evaluating their performance and productivity.
- Ensure Health and Safety standards are adhered to across the club.
- Ensure all club facilities are presented to a high standard
- Monitor speed of service and delivery and proactively arrange appropriate resources or support to ensure that the customer experience remains of the highest standard.
- Demonstrates and models a commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience.
- Represent the club effectively and professionally in its dealings with third parties
- To be successful the candidate must also appreciate the world of golf and have a proven track record of managing and inspiring a multi-disciplinary staff team in a relevant workplace environment
- To always be a positive ambassador for the Club.
Essential Skills
- Experience of marketing, business development and growing revenue streams.
- Leadership, good interpersonal and people management skills with a ‘hands on’ & ‘can do’ attitude.
- Thrive on delivering a great customer experience.
- High level of IT literacy and communication skills, including all social media. The Club uses Sage Accounts and Payroll, and BRS Club Systems.
- Sound financial and commercial acumen.
- Working knowledge of employment law, licensing law, health & safety legislation and risk management.
- An appreciation of golf and the traditions/expectations of a members’ club.
- Willingness to work flexible hours to meet the demands of the position.
- Good communicator – verbal and written. Desirable Skills:
- A University/College/PGA recognised qualification.
- Management Development Programme qualification.
- Sound knowledge of the Rules of Golf and the World Handicapping System.
- Clean driving licence.
- Knowledge of website content management.
- Relevant hospitality “front of house” experience.

Remuneration will reflect the importance of the role, the high level of professional service expected by the club as well as the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
